Easter is the second most important candy-eating occasion of the year for Americans, behind Halloween. Americans buy more than 700 million Peeps every Easter season making these brightly colored, marshmallow chicks the most popular candy for the holiday. But what’s so great about Peeps anyway?
Peep candies have made their way into countless Easter baskets over the years since they were first invented by Just Born Candy Company back in 1953. The franchise has expanded so much that you can now find everything from Peeps chap stick to slippers. People have even found inspiration to create entire works of art made from the variety of candy colors and shapes: http://www.refinery29.com/2015/04/84947/peeps-candy-art#slide-2
Peeps have essentially no taste, there are 25 calories in one chick and are made up of sugar, corns syrup and gelatin. They are not much of a treat on their own, but, they do fit perfectly on top of cupcakes. I used a Martha Stewart’s Buttercream frosting recipe and classic cupcake recipe to create these tasty white cupcakes to share with friends.
