While searching Pinterest for something Patriotic to bake for the Fourth of July, I came across a collection of recipes from Gold Medal Flour. The General Mills brand has been a household name across the country since the turn of the 1st century, but I never knew that their site shares some great recipes. As we celebrate all things American this week, these cookies are as patriotic as it gets. The Philiadelphia cream cheese frosting holds together red white and blue star designs and the homemade dough makes all the difference for the most authentic cookies.
Rolling the dough to be the perfect consistency can be a tedious task and the dough dries fast while you are forming the star shapes. I found myself adding pinches of butter and flour here and there to make sure we could use as much of the dough possible for the star shapes.
These cookies are so easy to make but it helps to have a partner in the kitchen to keep you company with the decorating process : ) America is all about traditions and these cookies have officially become a staple for all the of the Independence Days to come.
