After reading an article from The Guardian, “The science of shopping: digital innovations shaping the future of retail” It became clear to me how the digital world is about to revolutionize the retail experience at a rapid pace.
The over load of mobile apps created to make shopping easier on your phone, may or may not appeal to all digitally savvy people. Often we are overwhelmed when browsing the app store because if you have not been told to download an app, that has been recommended or is a top download, it’s hard to choose from the multitude of options.
Instagram, Pinterest, bloggers and vloggers are top platforms that allow for the democratization of fashion putting inspiration into the hands of every consumer. As people’s engagement increases online, businesses now have the need to develop a unique strategy to best communicate with their target markets.
Virgin Media set the scene for a series of events in London this month, predicting new innovations on the rise in retailing and digital shopping over the next 30 years.
One predicted industry trend is the power smaller companies have to use high tech shopping concepts in stores. As larger retailers face the demand to spread technology across many locations, startups and small businesses may launch these concepts faster.
Also, changes in users’ shopping capabilities will include: mobile voice operated shopping applications (to avoid the tedious typing of bank card details), 3D virtual store experiences online, and applications for fitting room feedback from other friends and users on mobile devices.
